Puuuuuurfect

This comes from an article on superherohype.com describing a scene featuring Bruce Wayne being thrown in the prison we briefly saw in the latest Dark Knight Rises trailer. It seems Selina is working for or at least helping Bane fulfill his mission. Either she is a straight up bad guy or, a more likely situation is, she is out for herself and will use whatever means to achieve her goals. Be that with Batman or Bane:

In an intro to an interview with Anne Hathaway talking about playing Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, the Los Angeles Times has posted this spoilerish scene description:

Gotham City is a war zone. A ruthless madman named Bane has ripped away any sense of security and the citizens, haggard and clutching suitcases with refugee anxiety, sit behind barbed wire waiting to see what will blow up next. A hooded prisoner is dragged in – it's Bruce Wayne, one of Gotham's most famous faces – but the eyes of the crowd go instead to the woman in black standing at the top of the staircase.
"Sorry to spoil things, boys, but Bane needs these guys himself," says sultry Selina Kyle, played here by actress Anne Hathaway, navigating the steps with stiletto heels that, on closer inspection, turn out to have serrated edges capable of leaving nasty claw marks in a fight. She also wears high-tech goggles that, when not in use, flip up and resemble feline ears.
Only 6 months to go people!! Oh and those outfit details sound inspired :D

The World is full of wankers

Taken from gametrailers.com, this article is hilarious! Ocean Marketing really have ruined any creditability that they may have had. It just goes to show that bullies, even ones with money, never win!

I’m not sure how to properly position the Ocean Marketing story here on SideMission, so I’m just going to link the tar out of it and let you enjoy the work of the many, many others that have already done excellent done work on this story.
It all started when Penny Arcade posted an email from a reader.  Give that link a smack for proper context.  It’s worth it.
So that happened, then all kinds of other shit happened.  This lovely recap is from Destuctoid.
In the hours following Ocean Marketing's public shaming, the unprofessional exploits of Paul Christoforo have become the latest Internet fascination — so much so that even insurance company Geico has gotten in on the fun.
The combined might of 4Chan, Reddit, Penny Arcade and other communities delivered vicious retribution to Christoforo. The Avenger Controller, which Ocean Marketing was representing, has been bombarded with negative reviews on Amazon, while the company's range of utterly awful Youtube videos have been swamped with dislikes and abusive comments.
Elsewhere, a website has popped up, dedicated to Christoforo's infamous "I wwebsite as on the internet" email.  Meanwhile, records of Christoforo's domestic abuse case (which he says was dropped) have started circulating the Internet, and his insincere apology to Penny Arcade seems to have only made matters worse.
Oh, and then there's the mounting evidence of plagiarism and further customer abuse that the man seems to have built his career around.
I think the most telling part of all this is how the non-gaming mother of a friend started talking about the "Ocean Marketing thing" of her own volition. The story has crossed over from a gaming story to a general consumer interest one. Don't be surprised to see mainstream news sources picking it up next.
Internet controversies move damn fast, eh? As for Paul himself? He seems to have started a new Twitter account after someone hijacked his original one (which he'd amusingly renamed "OceanStratagy"). After asking people not to call his house anymore, he announced he was taking time off. Probably for the best.

10 new details from the latest Dark Knight Rises Trailer

The article below is copied from comicvine.com:

Below you will see the ten new details revealed from both the trailer and the prologue. Because the trailer seems to jump around a bit and with the other information Christopher Nolan has revealed in interviews, we put together what we believe the chronology of the movie will be. Obviously there will be some possible spoilers but there's also the good chance that we're are completely off target.

Bane's Origin

From the prologue, we get a clear look at the man that will eventually break the Bat. We can hear his accent and it sounds like he does still have his Central/South America roots. He is part of a larger organization, most likely as the leader. The CIA is fully aware of the existence of Bane.

Bane's Parallel to 'The Dark Knight'

The prologue deals with Bane capturing and extracting a doctor from CIA custody. This is similar to the beginning of 2008's The Dark Knight where Batman has to extract Lau, a Chinese mafia accountant, in order to deliver him to the Gotham City Police Department. Lau had fled to Hong Kong.

A Different Football Team in Gotham

As readers of the comics know, the only football team in Gotham is the Gotham City Knights. From the trailer we can see the crowd in the stadium cheering for the Rogues. Using 'Knights' might've been too much considering it's in the title of this and the previous films.

Gordon Delivers Two Speeches for Harvey Dent

In The Dark Knight, the public was not aware that Harvey had turned into the evil Two-Face. In the prologue it appears he gives a brief speech. It's not entirely clear when each takes place, whether or not one takes place immediately after his death or on the anniversary of it. From the trailer, it can be seen that he is most likely giving the speech in the early Fall as there is mention that the Mayor is going to "dump him in the Spring" and we later see Batman and Bane fighting in the snow.

Batman is Seriously Injured

There's been speculation and rumors that Bane won't simply break the Bat but will actually break his back, as in the comics. Because we have that fuzzy "eight years later" time period Nolan has mentioned, we can't be completely sure when this injury takes place. There are several scenes in which Bruce is seen using a cane. It could have been possible that he was merely using the cane as a decoy in public to possibly explain his absence in Gotham but in the image above, it does look like he's the only one in the room.

Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle

At a masquerade ball, it looks like Selina and Bruce's first meeting will be reminiscent to the scene in Batman Returns. She calls him, Mr. Wayne, and this scene takes place after his injury as he does have the cane at this party.
Catwoman is on Bane's Side?
As Bruce and Selina dance, she gives a little speech.
You think this is going to last. There's a storm coming, Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches. Because when it hits, you’re all going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
With later scenes of Bane and his men causing havoc and destruction, it feels like too much of a coincidence that she's not aligned with him or aware of his plans in some way.

Bruce is Trapped in a Prison

Could this possibly be Santa Prisca? From the teaser trailer, Bane could be seen climbing out of a deep tunnel (which is also seen here). Going back to the eight year time change, the question is, how much time did Bruce spend in this prison (which looks to be modeled after Chand Baori)?
There is another scene in which it looks like an immobilized and beaten Bruce Wayne is at the mercy of Bane in this prison.
Bane simple tells him the following"
When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die.
This could be after Bane breaks him and carts him away to this prison in order to put the next stage of his plan into motion.

There are Multiple Tumblers

Because of the camouflage and the fact that there is more than one, Wayne Enterprises must have licensed out their tech to the government. If Bruce was away for a long period of time, it's possible the board of directors could have made the decision in order to make a profit or even save the company.

The Batwing is a New Vehicle for Batman

Along with the multiple tumblers, it looks like Wayne Enterprises has been pretty busy. Because it's all in black, clearly it belongs to Batman and hasn't been licensed out.

What About the Timeline?

Here's where we speculate even further. We could simply sit back and just wait for the actual movie to come out but after watching the trailer over and over, there's no way you can't try to make sense of it all. And that's probably just the way Nolan wants it.
The prologue scene takes place first. This is where Bane is establishing himself and the beginning of his bigger plans. He needs Dr. Pavel and gaining him from the CIA's custody is just the beginning.
There is peace in Gotham City after the Joker and Two-Face's reign of terror. Once again we have that eight year time to consider. Is it eight years after The Dark Knight or does a period of eight years pass during this movie?
At the end of the teaser trailer we see Batman and Bane fighting in a warehouse or alley. This is the moment where Bane breaks him and takes him away.
Bruce is left to recover in the prison. Also in the teaser, we see Bruce is doing push-ups. Because Bane's plans aren't complete and he wants Batman to see him destroy Gotham, locking him away while he's broken is a way to keep him out of the way and also lets Bane move his plan forward.
At first it appeared that Alfred is in the prison with Bruce. Many have been saying it's another actor which would make more sense.
Once Bruce has recovered, he finds a way out of the prison and returns to Gotham, still needed the cane to walk.
The dance/masquerade portion is next. Not only does Bruce meet and talk to Selina, but also Marion Cotillard.
Despite what we've been told, we all believe that Cotillard is actually Talia al Ghul.
The party is attacked by Bane's men. Commissioner Gordon is here doing his best to save the day but most likely this is when he is injured, as seen in the teaser trailer.
After the attack at the party, Bruce (or Batman) visits Gordon in the hospital. This is where Gordon tells him they need Batman again.
Bane proceeds to break out some criminals. These could be his men or simply more criminal thugs he can use to burn down Gotham. They proceed to attack the football stadium to continue their attack.
Bruce overcomes whatever obstacles have been keeping him from dressing up and we have the return of Batman. He gets the Batwing and then fights Bane on the steps of the courthouse.

My God this film can't arrive soon enough!

Wrath of the Titans - Trailer HD 1080p

Or as I like to think of it "Meh of the Titans". I wasn't a fan of the remake and yea I have to admit that this trailer at least promises the sequel to be a better film overall. But a better film than the Clash of the Titans remake doesn't a good film make!

We will see when the film is released in March 2012.

The passing of another legend

Copied from Comic Book Resources:

One of comics last remaining titans of the Golden Age has left us. CBR News has learned via the Facebook page for Vanguard Productions that Captain America co-creator and industry legend Joe Simon has passed away at 98 years of age. Marvel Comics has confirmed the news for CBR.
A prolific artist and editor in his own right, Simon remains best known for his longtime collaboration with artist Jack Kirby. The pair created multiple characters and genres for the burgeoning comics medium in their early careers before Simon moved on to life as a solo editor and artist before earning acclaim as a biographer and historian and battling Marvel Comics over the copyrights on his and Kirby's most famous creation: Captain America.
Born Hymie Simon in October of 1913 in Rochester, NY, the writer/artist learned the value of a smart business sense and hard work ethic early from his father -- a Jewish tailor who had emigrated from England eight years before he was born -- and began working as an artist as a teenager. After a stint serving as art director for his high school's newspaper, Simon soon took gigs across New York state as editorial cartoonist and artist for local papers before moving to New York City in the late '30s.
Simon soon landed in the comics industry thanks to his many art crowd connections, drawing features for Lloyd Jacquet's Funnies, Inc. comics packaging shop including the Fiery Mask -- the first superhero he created for Marvel precursor Timely Comics. Simon met Kirby shortly thereafter and invited the young artist -- impressed by his suit as well as his business sense -- to work with him on "Blue Bolt" #2, an early sci-fi superhero comic.
"Jack was one-of-a-kind," Simon told CBR in an interview this past summer. "As soon as we started working together, he and I were determined that when we worked together on a story, you wouldn't be able to see where one of us left off and the other started. We worked so closely together that, after the war, we moved into the same town on Long Island. That way, all we had to do was cross the street to get to the other's studio."
The pair soon graduated past fill-in gigs and one-off features as Simon smartly cut out the middleman that was the comics packaging shops of the early days in order to sell their work directly to the publishers for better pay and better credit. This led to the creation of Captain America in "Captain America Comics" #1 from 1941. Aside from impressing Timely publisher Martin Goodman and legions of young fans with its dynamic action cartooning, the pair's story also broke boundaries as the young Jewish creators decided to directly confront Adolf Hitler in the strip before America had entered the war in Europe.
Simon took on the role as the first Editor-in-Chief of the fledgling comic house and brought Kirby along as art director, though as popularity and profits for "Captain America" rose, he began to worry that Goodman was not paying the partners enough for their work as agreed. Quietly, Simon and Kirby began working a deal to go on staff at industry leader National Comics -- home of Superman -- where they soon set up shop on strips like "Manhunter," "The Sandman" and "Boy Commandos" where they pioneered their first new genre of kid gang comics which eventually also included "The Newsboy Legion."
From the start, Simon and Kirby's work was known for its dynamism and ingenuity. The pair pioneered artistic flourishes designed to take advantage of the comic book page rather than the increasingly small confines of the newspaper strip, including gorgeous splash pages. And the combination of Kirby's powerful figure work and Simon's elegant inks made their serial some of the most sought after by comic readers before the war.
Both men fought in World War II with their comic careers being sidelined as a result. Simon landed in the coast guard where he spent most of the war years producing promotional and advertising work for the armed forces as his partner was shipped off to the front. The pair reunited in the late '40s and began to innovate once again, creating multiple new comics genres including the very first romance comics in "Young Love" for Crestwood Publications as well as early spooky horror series "Black Magic" and the political satire "Fighting American." Despite attempts to break out from the run around of working for other publishers who held both the money and the power in comics, Simon and Kirby were never able to become publishers in their own right. In the late '50s after creating the short-lived superheroes "The Fly" and "Lancelot Strong, The Shield" for Archie Comics, the pair went their separate ways.
Simon continued in comics for many years, serving as E-i-C of his father-in-law Al Harvey's comics company during the '60s where he created titles including the "MAD Magazine" clone "Sick" and heroes like "The Stuntman." He later worked again for National/DC solo on characters like "Brother Power, The Geek" and "The Green Team: Boy Millionaires" which were met with varied levels of success.
"Many times over the years I've included current events in the stories, like World War II for 'Captain America,' post-war America in 'Stuntman' and the Cold War in 'Fighting American,'" Simon told CBR. "By the time I was doing 'Brother Power,' the '60s were in full swing and I wanted to try something new. Plus, I was running the gauntlet as the father of teenage kids and saw the whole youth movement through their eyes, as well. So that was great material for a new series." However, by the late '70s, the creator was mostly out of the comics game.
In the '60s, Simon also made his first moves against Marvel, suing the publisher for the rights to Captain America, which he contended he and Kirby had created independent of Goodman. The parties settled out of court in 1969, but it was not the end of a tenuous relationship between artist and company. In 1999, the artist attempted again to earn back the rights to the hero, filing papers to claim a right of reversion under the auspices of the Copyright Act of 1976. The battle went on for many years, bouncing from court to court with the final verdict coming down on the side of Marvel in part due to the '69 negotiations and their outcome.
In the meantime, Simon had made a return to the comics scene, writing the history/biography "The Comic Book Makers" in 1990 with his son Jim and appearing at many conventions across America. He licensed several of the characters he still retained the rights to, including "The Fighting American," to other publishers over the years and recently wrote a second autobiography, "My Life In Comics" which came out this year.
Simon last made the national news in 2007 when Marvel killed Captain America in its comic continuity. Making the press rounds, the artist was widely quoted as saying, "This is a time when we need Captain America more than ever."

R.I.P Mr Simon

Goodbye ponds!

A geeky review: Masters of the Universe

When I was a kid I loved a number of things, none more so than He-Man. I had the curtains, bed spread and as many of the toys as my parents could get their hands on for me. In fact it was my mum who got me into it at a young age by watching it with me. Shes always had a thing for topless men with swords, no matter how bad their haircuts are!
After enjoying all the episodes of the cartoon and by extension the spin off She-Ra, once I found out there was a film of He-Man I couldn’t wait to see it.  I remember watching it with my parents and not really following the story, but I loved every minute of it. Now to my older eyes I can see its many flaws (and follow the story, awesome!) but mainly due to my nostalgia I still love the heck out of it.
The film opens on Eternia which seems to have been at war for a good few years. The war seems to be nearing an end when the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella) manages to catch and imprison the Sorceress within her own castle and will soon use the Great eye of the Galaxy to possess the hidden power of Greyskull when the moon is correctly allinged. Only one thing stands in his way, He-Man (Dolph Lundgren), the holder of the sword of Power and the leader of the rebellion against Skeletor. Needing to get the Sword of Power to complete the transfer of the secrets of Greyskull, Skeletor sends out a ransom to the whole planet addressed to He-Man. He will give back the Sorceress for the capture of He-Man and his sword. Before going to rescue the Sorceress, He-Man meets a small inventor/locksmith named Gwildor who explains how Skeletor managed to take over Castle Greyskull. He stole the latest of Gwildors inventions, a cosmic key, to teleport into the Castle and seizes control. Gwildor reveals he has managed to keep a prototype of the key and shows He-Man and his fellow rebels Man at Arms and Teela a secret passage into the Castle that will help them stage a rescue. When they arrive at the Castle, Skeletors troops surround the group and demands them to surrender. After declairing to the imprisoned Sorceress that he will find a way to rescue her, He-Man and the rebels escape into a portal opened by Gwildor, only to find themselves trapped on Earth. Discovering that the cosmic key has been lost, the group march out to find the key, to get back to Eternia, stop Skeletor and rescue the Sorceress.
Even though the story isn’t very original it does follow some of the rules of the cartoon and seems to be set in the future after the continuity of the series. The highlight of the film has to be Langellas Skeletor. He is both intimidating and powerful. He commands the screen when he is around and steals every scene he is in. He seems to relish the part and is having tons of fun with playing the master of evil, complete with dramatic music whenever he turns his head! The make up is also spot on which makes him both scary and being unable to keep your eyes off of him. Evil Lynn, Skeletors right hand woman, is another excellent character who acts just like her series counterpart should yet only less magical and nastier. The costume design is also excellent, from the updated versions of the heroes’ costumes to the black storm troopers of skeletors men. It all makes the World come alive and seem real. Which is another problem I have with the film, to much of it is set on Earth. Almost three quarters of the movie takes place away from Eternia, the planet where everything major is happening. I can see it being down to a budget issue, trying to get a realistic Eternia for the whole film would no doubt cost a bomb. But it does make the movie feel less like He-Man and more like “What if He-man came to Earth for a trip?”
All the other actors and pretty much hit and miss. Lundgren looks perfect but sadly his very odd accent doesn’t help you believe he is the same character from the cartoon. Also, he uses his sword for about 10 minutes and most of that is in the final battle. Hes more of a gun user in the movie, which again feels a bit wrong! Everyone else looks good but seems a bit wooden, none more so than the two Earth characters. The other lieutenants of Skeletor are also criminally underused and die a bit to easily.
Ok, so its all a bit camp and yeah a lot of people think the film and by extension the series is just a big old gay fest. And I can see what they are picking on/at but its just a hell of a lot of fun. The music, the action and even the actors help to create a fun film that holds a special place in my heart alongside other movies of my childhood. If you haven't seen it make sure you do. Sit back, enjoy and try not to laugh at the gay overtones ;)

Secrets will be revealed

Taken from Comincvine.com:

Of all the Lantern organizations in the DC Universe, the Indigo Tribe is the one we know the least about. Recently, the group took center stage during the "War of the Green Lanterns" story arc when the Indigo Tribe leader -- Indigo-1 -- lost control of her ring and her powers were temporarily passed onto Green Lantern John Stewart.
Now the tribe will once again be coming front and center starting with issue #7 of Green Lantern. The issue will launch a whole new ongoing story that will delve into the identities and the "secrets" behind the Indigo tribe. This is big news for Green Lantern fans who have wondered how the Indigo Tribe first came into existence.
We may not know much about Indigo-1, also known as Iroque, prior to her Indigo Tribe days, except that she had at one time been imprisoned in the Book of the Black by Krona and was awaiting judgement by Abin Sur. But why? Why was she imprisoned? The panels that revealed this part of her history depicted her in a violent rage, physically fighting Sinestro in an effort to break free. Was it fear that drove her to the edge? Like Sinestro says, for a Lantern who is supposed to be completely overcome by compassion, Indigo-1 certainly is not. Check out the image below of the scene which can be found in issue #66 of Green Lantern.
What could it all mean? What is the Indigo Tribe's connection to Abin Sur? Looking also at the Indigo Tribe's oath, you might notice Abin Sur's name.
“Tor lorek san, bor nakka mur,Natromo faan tornek wot ur.Ter Lantern ker lo Abin Sur,Taan lek lek nok–Formorrow Sur!”-Oath of the Indigo Tribe
Perhaps the definition of the Oath will appear in the upcoming issue of Green Lantern #7 written by Geoff Johns with art from Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy. In the issue, Hal Jordan and Sinestro will venture to the Indigo Tribe's homeland to uncover the truths behind some heinous crime." Could that "heinous crime" have something to do with Indigo-1's imprisonment? Methinks yes!

About time the secret of the Indigo Tribe were expanded on. Since reading War of the Green Lanterns, I have become more and more intrigued by what exactly caused Indigo-1 to put on the ring of compassion and lead the tribe. Anything that delves into the past of Abin Sur is also always welcome!

Its coming......

Copied from the comic book resources website:

‘It’s coming’ on Wednesday, apparently

It's still coming
After two months of teases, it looks like we may get some payoff on the “It’s coming” images that Marvel started running around the New York Comic-Con. The company has scheduled a live event this Wednesday at 3 p.m. Eastern to hopefully announce the project.
Since October, Marvel has run Phoenix-themed teaser images, with several of their top creators tied to it — Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, Olivier Coipel, John Romiat Jr. and Adam Kubert. And in the recent Point One comic, the Phoenix entity popped up in the Nova story, which led to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso confirming that it’s part of a “Marvel Universe event.”
“The Phoenix is the spirit of destruction and rebirth,” Alonso told CBR’s Kiel Phegley during a discussion about Point One. “It razes worlds to grow something new. It’s bad news if you happen to be part of that ecosystem; good news if you’re the next stage. And, as everyone knows, the Phoenix is nothing without a host. So, the question emerges: If the Phoenix is headed somewhere, where is that? And if it needs a host, who is that host? Because we all know what happened the last time it found a host!”
You can check out the panel from the Nova story featuring the big ol’ flaming bird after the jump.

FANGASM!! I'm just hoping the host is actually Jean again as I don't want a random character with all the power and history that comes with the Phoenix Force. I doubt its gonna be Hope though (or Rachel for that matter), I guess thats just to obvious! Either way, please let this mean that Jean is on her way back with or without the Phoenix Force, the X-Men seriously need her more now than ever.

Hey. I'm the Doctor. I'm not going anywhere. And you are very, very welcome

"Here's some comfort for those of you who were worried by this story that a Doctor Who movie was in development: Steven Moffat has tweeted to reassure fans that any planned film will belong to the same canon as the TV show and won't be some awful American reboot.

The tweet simply reads, "To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot."

Well thank f**k for that!! Oh and Steven Moffat is amazing, nuff said!

Is this what happens in the Dark Knight Rises Prologue?

This description was found on a website claiming to have seen the forthcoming Dark Knight Rises prologue. Take from it what you will and remember that it could be far from the truth. Mind you, if this is what happens during the prologue, it sounds bloody fantastic!

According to the website, the prologue covers one of the assassinations ordered by Ra’s al Ghul. “A mind-blowing action sequence set aside the Hercules plane, involving some innovative camera work, a la Inception’s hallway fight scene”, it says.

The scene sees Bane and his crew hijacking a military plane, that happens to be carrying a nation’s dictator. Bane “successfully kills the leader, but makes some mistakes along the way and is unable to safely land the plane. Because of the resulting injuries from the accident, he has to undergo complicated surgeries, and that is how he winds up with that scar down his neck, and the need for the mask to numb the pain”.

Rama's Screen’s source also suggests that the backstory of Bane has been altered. Now, he’s raised by Ra’s al Ghul, and “his upbringing mirrors that of Bruce Wayne”.
Working for the League Of Shadows, “he kills political figures that are deemed unfit”, and “he comes to Gotham to start a revolution by revealing the cover up dealing with Harvey Dent”, along with “killing the Mayor, among other key political figures”.

I love the idea that Bane is going to reveal the cover up about Harvey Dent being Two Face and that it will begin a revolution with the structure of Gotham City. Plus the back story to Bane being raised by Ra's Al Ghul creates a link between Bane and Bruce Wayne that will no doubt be exploited and explored. Be sure to catch an IMAX screening of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol next month to see the prologue in all its glory!

Bret Mckenzie drops hints about a Conchords movie!

Since the second series of Flight Of The Conchords finished a couple of years ago, it has been Jemaine Clement who has seemingly had the better big screen career. He's picked up roles in the likes of Dinner For Schmucks, Gentlemen Broncos, Rio and the upcoming Men In Black 3.
However, the other half of the Conchords, Bret McKenzie, will appear in a small role in The Hobbit (he also appeared briefly in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King) and has also been promoting his work on The Muppets recently. And now? He's been hinting at the possibility of a Flight Of The Conchords movie.
Specifically, McKenzie stated the following whilst on red carpet duties: “We’re gonna try and do a movie. We just need a story.”
From that brief snippet of information it’s clear that we shouldn’t expect the movie any time soon. Not that the two are likely to be short of work. Clement will probably continue to get offered an array of wacky supporting roles. And there’s a strong chance that McKenzie could be an Academy Award winner in the Best Original Song category next year for The Muppets.

Gah, I hope that this happens. As brilliant as the tv show was, I felt that it could have gone at least another series and ending way before its time. I understand it was more of the fact that the second series was difficult for them to make due to them having to write all new songs and have stories around them. Heres hoping htat given enough time, they can make a strong, funny movie with all the charm of the series.

Arkham City Review

For the past month I have been playing the hell out of just one game, just one. Many other games are sat next to my tv, waiting, nay begging to be played and starting to feel jealous of my time spent with this one amazing game. That game is Arkham City.

There really is nothing else I can say in this review that hasn’t already been said by countless others in magazines, newpapers and on the internet. So all I am going to say is that Arkham City is the game to which all other super hero, hell even all other action games, should be judge against. It is a pinnacle of what a game should be. A fantastic story with amazing graphics and sound, absorbing gameplay and tons of replay value.

With over 440 Riddler trophies to collect, countless side quests, over 10 challenge maps with different goals per character and loads of other content. I won’t even begin to mention the extra DLC characters or upcoming challenge maps. The content in this game is staggering. It makes the previous game, Arkham Asylum, look like a test run for everything we have here.
Do yourself a favour, buy this game, kick back and immerse yourself in the stunning World of Arkham City.

Spoilers and shit

Heres a quote from another website claiming some new news on The Dark Knight Rises:

Here is a little about how Bane terrorises Gotham city and his personality:
Bane is a successful villain. He comes into Gotham with a plan executes it and stops anyone who tries to stop him. He’s tactical and smart he knows who to apply pressure to and who to get rid of however he has a short fuse and when Batman begins to gain the upper hand Bane resorts to drastic measures.
About the device that threatens Gothams existence:
The device, whatever it is, GOES OFF at some point and destroys a massive part of Gotham State and cripples the entire city. Law enforcement is useless against it and in fear of another attack in other major cities or in Gotham again people are quiet about trying to stop Bane head on. This leads to a depressive state in Gotham where fear of the machine and Bane’s use of it keeps Gotham in line.
Could the Batwing be in the film?
Also, Got to see some of the night shoot from the other day, I never once saw Catwoman But I could tell Batman was talking to someone. Whatever the conversation was, he didn’t look…Happy. It’s hard to tell what he looked like but the exchanged looked somewhat charged. Also he looked as if he was talking to the Batwing…

Very interesting snippets. We know for sure that the Batwing is in the film, if it is gonna be called that, who knows. Bane sounds much like his comic book counterpart, but with a short fuse that Batman seems to know how to ignite and undermine him.

Doctor Who movie may be in the works

Lifted from Denofgeek.com:

Doctor Who may be just years away from returning to the big screen. And Harry Potter helmer David Yates is set to direct it. Details here.

Variety is reporting tonight that a deal has been done to press ahead with a long-mooted Doctor Who movie. It’s a bit of a bolt from the blue, this one, as the last we heard regarding a Who film was when rumours were circulating that Russell T Davies would be involved, with David Tennant starring.
This, however, seems to be a different beast, and a far bigger one.

David Yates, the director of the last four Harry Potter films, has told Variety that he’s now developing a Doctor Who film in conjunction with Jane Tranter at BBC Worldwide. Yates is quoted as saying “we’re looking at writers now. We’re going to take two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena”.

The Variety story confirms that the planned movie will be independent of both Russell T Davies’ and Steven Moffat’s take on Doctor Who, with Yates saying both did versions that were “fantastic”, but that “we have to put that aside and start from scratch”.

That, presumably, rules out David Tenannt and Matt Smith from starring, too. Peter Cushing, sadly, died in 1994, so he’s out, as well.

No further news are known about the story just yet, but this is, surely, the biggest attempt to bring Who to the big screen since the days of Doctor Who And The Daleks and Daleks’ Invasion Earth: 2150AD. With Yates behind the project, this might just happen, too.

There’s been no reaction that we can find from Steven Moffat and Russell T Davies thus far, incidentally. There has also been no official confirmation from the BBC. But the source is Yates himself, and that suggests there might be something to this. The Doctor vs Voldemort, then?

So what do you think? Yates is a British director, and has said he wants to capture a “British sensibility” with the film, but hasn’t ruled out using American writers. And then there’s the casting: who will be the big screen Doctor?

Share your thoughts in the comments below, and the Variety story is here.

All I have to say about this is please Lord no. I for one enjoyed the Peter Cushing films but they were  so out of synch with the tv show that it felt jarring. Even though they were basically remakes of two preivous  Dalek TV stories with a human, actual Doctor Who they have an odd place in the who-niverse and feel so out of place with the lore which is almost 50 years old! I really hope this either falls at the first hurdle or if you are going to do a Doctor Who movie, give it to Stephen Moffat to write and actually have it in line with the TV show. An extended, feature length cinematic story with the current Doctor or even the one who will no doubt appear sometime after or around the 50th anniversary in 2013. Just please dont make a random stand alone feature film, it would just seem so out of place!

Immortals Review

Story:

After declaring war on humanity when the Gods leave his family to die from illness, King Hyperion (Micky Rouke) searches all of Greece for the Epirus Bow, a powerful weapon forged by the God Ares. His plan is to advance on Mount Tartarus and use the bow to destroy a long hidden prison containing the Titans, a powerful race of God like beings who were imprisoned there after being defeated by the Gods themselves. Meanwhile a young man named Theseus (Henry Cavill), who has been unknowingly trained by a disguised Zeus to become a leader of men, is pushed towards his destiny when King Hyperion ransacks his village and kills his mother.  Joining forces with a run away Oracle and a convicted theif, Theseus follows Hyperion to Mount Tartarus where he plans to gain his revenge and meet his destiny head on.

Review:

The recent fad of filming things on green screen and adding all the background detail in post-production has had conflicting results. On the one hand it can make a film look stylish and deep, like 300 and Sin City. On the other hand it can make things look overly complicated and just plain boring to look at, like The Spirit and dare I say it Attack Of The Clones (don’t hate me!).Thankfully Immortals manages to be more in the stylish category, and sometimes it is a joy to behold. From the extravagant costume designs to the glorious backgrounds it is a treat for the eyes. The Gods balcony in the sky and their gold costumes help them look distinct yet alien and separate from the dark colours of the mortal world.
The acting can be a bit hit and miss, with some characters not having much to do and being a bit hard to watch (like Theseus’ mother and StephenDorff as a very corny thief) to other characters who really relish and seem comfortable in their parts (The Oracle, the Gods and even a sometimes bored looking John Hurt is enjoyable). Henry Cavill as Theseus is humble yet deeply passionate when he or people close to him are threatened. He is really easy to and manages to drive the story and action forward with each and every scene. He has a slight blip when he somehow slips into a Leonidas impression from 300 whilst trying to rally his troops, but otherwise he is fantastic. In fact it is after seeing him in this film that makes me think Zack Synder definitely made the right choice in casting him as the the new Superman/Clark Kent. You can’t help but want to follow his story and character right to the very end. His fight scenes are brutal and sometimes shocking in their complexity (a favourite part of mine was where he manages to kill three people by breaking s spear down into smaller pieces as he goes).
In fact all of the fighting scenes of the film are, for me, immensely enjoyable and the best part. All the mortals who we see fight are visceral and very brutal in their fighting styles. Sometimes the moves they pull off seem fantastical but you can actually imagine people being able to do it with enough training. Compare that with the Gods, who fight with such speed and precision that time seems to slow down and death is dealt swiftly and without remorse. They are so different that you actually feel the Gods are just that, powerful and immortal Gods who are above us in everyway, but maybe not in morals.

Overall the film is enjoyable and runs along at a speedy pace. The 3D, which has been bigged up with the advertising of this film, isn’t as amazing as you would have been lead to believe. The depth and field and colours look gorgeous with some effects seeming to lift off of the screen but you cant help but feel it would look just as good on the big screen without 3D. If you have any interest in Greek Mythology or enjoyed 300 or the original Clash Of The Titans, you can’t go far wrong with Immortals. If you have no interest in films of this type or films with swords and sorcery then this film won’t change your mind!
